The Beautiful Benefits of Microneedling
Have you been on the fence about microneedling? I am here to share with you the many benefits of and why I believe just about everyone can benefit from microneedling treatments.
What is beautiful about microneedling is the fact that the epidermis (upper layers of your skin) is preserved and thickened over time. There is no significant downtime and the treatment also encourages normal cell-to-cell communication. When we have normal cell-to-cell communication, the skin is healthy and can better receive the nutrients from treatments and products used.
Hyperpigmentation and Dark Spots
You may know that micro-needling, or collagen induction therapy, increases and remodels the collagen. However, this is but one of the benefits of this wonderful treatment. As I explained in my last blog, Sharpen Your Knowledge About Microneedling, a micro-injury is created in the skin during the treatment. When this injury occurs, it reboots the cellular function of the skin. By rebooting the cellular function, it can create a cascade of other benefits. For example, if the body’s melanocytes (melanin-forming cells) are over-producing or under-producing pigment, needling can normalize this and thus reduce or improve pigment in the skin.
Scars from Acne, Surgeries or Child Birth
Studies have shown that micro needling has also been effective on scarring from acne, childbirth and surgeries because the needling mechanically breaks down the scar tissue in the top portion of the dermis. It increases the platelet growth factors which attracts white blood cells into the wound, releasing anti-inflammatory growth factors by the immune system promoting healing and scar reduction. Scars will smooth out and the area will be plumped up.
Elasticity of the Skin
In addition to the synthesis of new collagen, microneedling also synthesizes the stretchy protein found in connective tissue and skin which we know as elastin. This will allow our skin to “snap” back into place when it is tugged at instead of sagging.
Broken Capillaries and Rosacea
Microneedling can also be very beneficial in the treatment of rosacea and broken capillaries in the skin. Microneedling thickens the dermis of the skin over time and stimulates angiogenesis which produces stronger vessel walls and connective tissue that supports the vessels for improved blood flow. In time, this will lessen the appearance of the vessels under the skin and reduce redness in the skin for an even-toned appearance.
Less Costly and Safer than Ablative Treatments
Lastly, clinical studies have proven that microneedling treatment can be more effective than ablative treatments like laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, and chemical peels. It is just as effective as non-ablative treatments like IPL, CO2 laser, and Fraxel in stimulating collagen and elastin production and costs less! What is even better, it is safe for all skin types because there is no risk of melanocyte (darkening of the skin) heat injury!
Get Ready to Transform Your Skin
Microneedling is safe and benefits all skin tones, all parts of the body, and can be done on those in their 20’s and beyond! The downtime is short and the benefits continue to improve for up to three months after the treatment. This is a great treatment for those who want to improve their complexions but do not want to use Botox or fillers.
